European Capital of Culture

Aalborg2032 is locally rooted, regionally connected, and European in outlook.

Why do we want to be European Capital of Culture?

We are reaching for the title, because we know that we have something to offer. Culture has been a strong driving force in our development, and it should also shape our future.

Being designated a European Capital of Culture means, that we place art and culture at the very top of the agenda. It is an investment in our everyday lives and in the development of the entire region. It is an investment in the future.

Firmly grounded and moving forward

We are shaped by wind and weather and the rugged landscape of North Jutland. This has taught us to stand firmly grounded while also having the determination to act and move forward.

This balance – between a sense of security and courageous change – is something we want to share with a Europe that is searching for footholds in an uncertain world.

Aalborg and North Jutland resemble many places across Europe

We believe that Aalborg and North Jutland can contribute local answers to shared European challenges. By opening ourselves to each other and to Europe, we make our own world larger and stronger.

Aalborg2032 is, among other things, about making Aalborg and North Jutland an even better place to live, work, and build a life – also for future generations. This is an important local and regional agenda, and at the same time a crucial shared European agenda.

We are still at an early stage of the process and are continuously building on the many ideas we have received from you.
